Gallery Talk: Lazy Lines in Navajo Rugs
Tucson Desert Art Museum, 7000 E. Tanque Verde Rd.

After forty years of restoring Navajo rugs, I’ve noticed unique features in these textiles. I will discuss the basics of the Navajo loom and weaving process, including why the weavers insert deliberate pattern breaks called “lazy lines”.The Tucson Desert Art Museum, a hidden Tucson gem, is a nonprofit institution dedicated to showcasing the art and artifacts of the Desert Southwest. SoulCollage® is a creative process of self-discovery that uses imagination, intuition, and images to create personal cards through collage. In this series of hands-on workshops, participants will learn the basics of creating and interpreting their cards. No art experience is necessary, just an open mind and the desire to exercise your creative powers. All supplies provided. Participants should plan to attend all four sessions.

Collage Yourself Into a Story workshop

Many writers struggle to find their next story. Maybe you have an idea but lack the characters, or conversely, the characters are haunting you, but you don’t know what to do with them.

Participants in this workshop will find inspiration, tap into their intuition, and exercise their imaginations using simple SoulCollage® techniques combined with writing exercises. No prior art experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided. Please bring something to write with, your willingness to learn new techniques, and your enthusiasm to explore a new approach to an old problem.

The Tucson Festival of Books is a community-wide FREE celebration of literature, held March 15 and 16 from 9:30 to 5:30. Festival activities include both large and small author panels and workshops on various literary and book-centered topics. The festival features hundreds of local and national exhibitors with literacy-focused booths and activities. Attendees can meet their favorite authors, purchase books and book-themed merch, learn about local nonprofits, interact with indie authors, publishers, and much more.

20/20 Vision: Looking Back and Looking Ahead
Four-week Storytelling Workshop
April 4, 11, 18, and 25 @ 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm, Tucson, AZ

Do you want to be able to tell a personal story to a roomful of friends and family without them nodding off? Do you aspire to regale an audience from the stage with tales from your life? Or just keep one person rapt by sharing your story? All of these things are possible by learning a few skills and a little practice. This workshop is a combination of learning and doing.

Participants will bring note-taking supplies. The last session will be an opportunity for tellers to practice their storytelling skills by voluntarily participating in a performance. Class members may invite a friend or two to build a friendly audience.

As a faithful journaler for most of my life, I have experienced profound benefits in many aspects of my life, and I believe that others can have the same experience.

This workshop series will cover topics such as why to keep a journal, how to journal effectively, and how to establish a daily journaling habit. No writing experience is required.

We will meet for three two-hour sessions on consecutive Thursdays, with a final follow-up session scheduled for one month later. The follow-up is about accountability when building a consistent practice. To maximize the benefits, participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions.
